Set udefra ligner Amager Bryghus måske nok en hvilken som helst anden småtrist industriel bygning, som det ligger i det vindomsuste erhvervskvarter Kirstinehøj og gnubber sig ubekvemt op ad CPH – Københavns Lufthavn – i et hengemt hjørne af Amager.
Men indenfor, inde i de 30 gæringstanke og endnu flere egetræsøltønder, her hersker magien og mystikken mens simple ingredienser under en pruttende boblen omdannes til de lifligste øl. Lokale beboere på nattevandring i kvarteret hævder ligefrem, at der stråler underlige lysskær i hypnotiske farver ud fra bryggeriet i de sene nattetimer. Vi er tilbøjelige til at tro, at de har kigget lidt for dybt i vores flasker med stærkt øl, men vi vælger at lytte og give dem ret og ro i sindet, når vi forklarer, at det skam er helt normalt.
Morten Valentin Lundsbak og Jacob Storm er navnene på de to venner, som pustede liv i magien og startede bryghuset i 2007. Begge var oprindelig håndbryggere, men har siden uddannet sig videre til Diplombryggere fra Den Skandinaviske Bryggerhøjskole. I starten var ambitionerne beskedne, nemlig blot at være et lille bryghus på det lokale marked. Men selv om den lokale forankring i dag er bundsolid på Amager, så flyder mere end halvdelen af produktionen nu til udlandet. Øl fra Amager Bryghus findes i dag i mere end 30 lande.
Amager Bryghus modtog Amager Erhvervspris for 2016. Danske Ølentusiaster tildelte i 2018 Morten og Jacob Den Danske Ølpris og senere samme år kårede foreningen Amager Bryghus til årets bryggeri, ligesom bryghuset vandt prisen for årets ølnyhed i 2018 med Black Nordic Skies.
Ligeledes har verdens største portal for forbruger-ølanmeldelser, amerikanske Ratebeer, 12 år i streg haft Amager Bryghus på sin liste over verdens 100 bedste bryggerier (ud af ca. 30.000 bryggerier i verden).

Seen from the outside, Amager Bryghus may very well look like any other halfway sad industrial building, positioned as it is in the windblown business estate of Kirstinehøj, rubbing up against CPH – Copenhagen Airport – in a remote corner of Amager. But inside, inside with the 30 fermentation vessels and even more oak barrels, this is where the magic and the mystery unfolds, as simple ingredients are turned into delicious beer to the constant sound of bubbling in the background. Local citizens out walking the dog in the neighborhood, even claim to see strange beams of light in hypnotic colors radiating out from the brewery late at night. We are inclined to believe that they may have had one beer too many from our strong range, but we choose to listen and give them peace of mind by explaining that this is completely normal.
Morten Valentin Lundsbak and Jacob Storm are the names of the two friends that ignited the magic and opened the brewery in 2007. Both originally homebrewers, they have since gained degrees as Diploma Brewers from The Scandinavian School of Brewing. In the beginning ambitions were modest, and the aim was simply to be a small player on the local Amager and Copenhagen markets. Today the brewery has a rock solid local following, but more than half the production flows to consumers abroad. Amager beer can now be found in more than 30 countries.
In 2018 The Danish Beer Enthusiast Society awarded Morten & Jacob the Danish Beer Prize, and later in the same year Amager Bryghus won the prize as Brewery of The Year and best newcoming beer in 2018 – based on member votes. In addition, the world’s leading site for consumer beer ratings, Ratebeer, has listed Amager among the top 100 breweries in the world for 12 consecutive years – out of approximately 30.000 breweries in the world today.
